As we look to rebuild following the devastation of the Canterbury earthquakes, and drive New Zealand forward towards a more productive future, our construction industry is undertaking a detailed examination of advanced building technologies and materials.
To assist our structural engineers, architects and designers in this task, as well as our major contractors and builders, CCANZ is committed to raising awareness of reinforced concrete’s role in damage resistant design solutions, such as PREcast Seismic Structural System (PRESSS), base isolation and non-tearing joints (slotted beams).
Showcased as part of the Concrete Futures campaign, these systems represent a new low damage approach to seismic design, one which still embraces life safety as a priority, but also seeks to enable business continuity post-earthquake for building owners, their clients and the public, through damage minimisation.
CCANZ has produced three short films that demonstrate the benefits of damage resistant design using concrete systems:
PREcast Seismic Structural System (PRESSS)
Base Isolation
Non-Tearing Joints (Slotted Beams)
