Allan Scott has recently joined the Department of Civil and Natural Resources Engineering, at the University of Canterbury, as a lecturer in the field of concrete materials.
Allan has a B.Eng & Mngt from McMaster University, Canada and Masters and PhD degrees from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. He recently worked at the Centre for Nuclear Energy Research (CNER) in New Brunswick. Prior to his work at CNER, he was a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of New Brunswick.
Allan’s primary research interests lie in the durability and sustainability of reinforced concrete infrastructure as it relates to material performance of the concrete such as chloride ingress and the corrosion of reinforcing steel. In this regard the University of Canterbury has recently acquired laboratory equipment to allow the accurate determination of chloride diffusion profiles in concrete, which will greatly assist in the study of concrete performance properties.
Allan is very pleased to be in New Zealand and looks forward to working with members of the concrete industry to contribute to its continued development and advancement.
